Acid Reflux

Well, though Catherine is completely wonderful, she has given us some scares as she has had some choking followed by some moments without breathing (10-15 seconds- one time it was longer than that). She was doing this at least once a day and after talking with three doctors we found that it is acid reflux. Thankfully it is not as bad as it can be as she is still feeding okay and it does not seem to hurt her at this time. Her only symptoms now are choking and not breathing for a few seconds when she lays flat (whereas others cannot feed well and vomit a lot, don't gain weight, etc.) The doctor instructed us to keep her upright for a half an hour after she eats and that has seemed to really help her. We are thankful for finding something that helps! We still keep a close eye one her when we change her diapers or clothes and we're quick to hold her up if she start to choke. The doctor said that she should grow out of it just fine. We're looking forward to that day! For now she sleeps in her car seat as she can't lay flat (without giving us panic attacks) and she won't stay asleep on her side as one of the doctors instructed. This has been a "fun" challenge to add to the regular first time parents/first few weeks of life for the baby challenges.

  1. Look up Amby bed. We had to get one for Connor because he had similar issues! It would be worth the investment and she could sleep in it at least until she starts crawling.
